MARK was established in 2008 with a drive to design and manufacturer sustainably – an ambition strengthened by joining The Senator Group in 2025.

As designers our greatest opportunity to affect the environmental impact of a product is at the design stage when 80% of the environmental footprint of a product is determined. With this at the forefront of our minds we work to a circular design model, assessing our impact across three areas: Community, Materials and Lifecyle.

Community

Whether we are focused on product purpose at the inception of a creative brief or managing materials at end of life – people are involved in every process.

Working together with designers, engineers and craftspeople, our approach is collaborative. We learn from each other and challenge ourselves continually on material choices, production techniques and end of life processing to create a positive impact on our community.

Materials

Designing with sustainable materials that play their part in a circular economy drives our choices.

Our design process ensures we are informed by data and driven by our ambition for a regenerative future. Avoiding toxic materials, materials that are free of PFAS and VOC’s as well as processes such as chromium plating – all decisions resulting from a strict sustainable view of our material choices.

As we continue to challenge ourselves, our motivation is to design not only sustainably but regeneratively – using naturally derived materials, repurposing waste material, and aiming for 100% circularity in production.

Lifespan

We design for a long life, for repair and refinishing, and ultimately for disassembly into different waste streams at the end of a products life.

All our products are products are designed to be:

– Easy to fix for a long life

– Suitable for refurbishment for a second life

– Easy to disassemble in to component materials

This approach, in tandem with The Senator Group’s leading Sustain facility, allows us to refinish, repurpose and recycle products as and when they reach end of life.

Within The Senator Group MARK is proud to be able to have access to two unique offerings within the furniture industry:

  • re:work  | focused on reusing, reconditioning and re-circulating furniture. This service aims to extend product lifecycles, eliminate unnecessary waste and consumption, and promote the circular economy.

  • Sustain | recycling since 2007, Sustain is at the forefront of recycling practices through the Sustain Recycling Centre. This £1.5m facility and its services are available to support all brands and customers within the wider group helping them all on the journey to net zero.

As part of The Senator Group, our design and production process, feeds directly into the ESG strategy of the wider group which is focused on:

  • Designing with Intent
  • Reducing our Impacts
  • Building Better Lives
